Having different levels of herodom sounds pretty kewl... but still beings up issues... Though it would be nice to distinguish helpful heroes from inactive heroes, it would also create a new reason for heroes to complain... (if you thought it was bad just dealing with complaints about people imming, imagine with 3 or 4 different promotions even BEFORE someone imms) Just my 2 million dollars... (what can I say? I invested my two cents in Microsoft about 7 years ago :p) Gorzak How about a area just for heroes...give them something to do besides running quests and getting corpses..instead of exp the heroes could gain pratices.or something.but i do see a problem with the imms complaining about the practices...but i still think and hero area with mobs..only accesable to them..Gotta have something to do after ya hero.. i would like to make a suggestion about the talk channels. I am addicted to spamming and have gotten in a bit of trouble with several imms for my spamming. what i propose is a spam channel that is of no use but to spam to your hearts content this way people who don't appreciate the entertainment values of spam can turn off the channel and not miss anything important as they would if the spam was on the chat or music channel. well thats my two cents worth, and thankyou for your time in considering my suggestion yours in mudding spoon Graleir: I have come across an interesting illithid spell - disintigrate. The spell compeletely destrows a mob and its eq. No xp is awarded to the caster. Handy if you fear assisting mobs. My problem is that it costs 150 mana. That is 1 and 1/2 ticks of drunken sleeping if you have a 24 or 25 int. What I don't think is fair is that druids get the exact same spell, called bamf, and it costs them 50 at the most and 5 after quite a few levels. Does anyone else think the cost for disintegrate is too high? I propose it be lowered to 50 or at least 100 mana. -Graleir, Turin, Stride, Paroid....that about covers it How about a way to change your recall location.. I noticed several towns have temples and if you could set your recall location it would cut down on the traffic in the main recall area.. also this you allow you to get back to your body quicker if you got killed in and area service by the town :) Let me know what you think... Thanks for making the game great fun for all :) Steve Perry aka; Ebnador, Keypo Kiri: its word of recall :) Finding stuff under other stuff IOW?? That's a pretty cool idea....kinda tricky to pull off though. Must be a coder's nightmare!! Hi I think that as well as seeing into someones or somethings inventory with peek you should also be able to see how much gold they have on them. Just a suggestion....Alexei Why? I was thinking... Illithids, and possibly Elf's and Druids could learn a spell called "hallucinate." What it would do is make the target -Rekah Simple solution...get yourself REALLY drunk. It isn't quite the same, but it's just as fun. *grin* Kiri- The new webpage (profile Oakley for the address) has the builders guide in web format. you CANT get easier than that :) It's also linked in to my homepage. Mine's in my profile, too. SiD: when a spell is cast that is already affective, make the duration of the spell max Well...the way we have it is better I think cuz that way you don't have to spend precious mana so soon...so what's the point? Axle: Have two classes of heroes, major heroes and minor heroes. When you turn levvel 51, you become a minor hero, and must be upgraded to major hero after demonstrating usefulness. :). Then imm. Kiri- Hmm, what do you people think of this? What do you mean by "usefulness?" Fireflash: hehe prob got bunch of requests but how bout making a drink or a spell available to everyone at healer or store to cure drunkeness. coffee dont really work.. so it would be avialble to all make it a low cost drink or lowcost spell.. just an idea -f Kiri- this takes some of the risk out of being drunk though :) Better yet, how about a spell that makes you even more drunk than you are? Or makes you drunk? It's randomly cast, and HO BOY WATCH THE FUN FLY!!!! => How about a skill for avians called puncture where they could puncture eq that they normally could not use so they could use it. It would be a high level skill and you would have to need a lot of str or something. The armor would also become dented or scratched and could not be fixed. Just an idea. Alexei One of the things that i am slightly concerned about is he biuying procedure when in various armouries. Some object cannot be bought because their call name - i.e. barbed for barbed lance and barbed for barbed short sword. Restricts one from biuying that object, For instance when one tries to buy the lance (see above) one purchases (against ones will) the sword. This infuriates annoys and quickly makes one pauper when succeding attempts render one skint. Can this be helped? Is there a secret that allows Us the consumer (assoc. mem. of BR buying public) to bypass this? TVC15 Try buy 2.sword or 3.sword. that should work :) To whom it may concern TVC15 is a song by David Bowie from the station to station album (Very Very Good). Please stop asking, thank you You said you needed stuff for the newsletter. This falls under the category of totally worthless trivia :) --------------------------------------------------------------- Average price of Basic unleaded gasoline per gallon in US dollars: Netherlands $4.66 France $4.49 Italy $4.39 Ireland $4.24 Germany $3.86 Japan $3.85 United Kingdom $3.68 Spain $3.50 Brazil $3.35 Canada $1.63 told you it was worthless :) Ohaern Hey everyone. Shadowfire here....Heres a suggestion for a spell: Druids: Create Booze. now, you are most likely disregarding the idea, but it has a very good use. when you're out (alone) in the wilderness and you run out of ale, you dont feel like going back to recall..because you have nobody you can astral back to. It would be a reasonably high level spell...35 to 40..and would cost quite a bit of mana, that way, when you have no mana, it isnt quite as easy to recover it. You gotta think ahead, people! ah well... not like this will get the time of day... -Shadowfire Hello, my name is Ohaern and I am a Hero :) My character name is from a book titled The Shar Stone by Christopher Stasheff. In the book Ohaern is a shaman. In RL my name is Steve. I live in Michigan and I am a Banker. My work involves deposit problem resolution. It's vey stressful and being able to come to BR after work helps me to unwind. As some of you know.. my summer has been a rough one health wise. I am finally getting better and hopefully getting back to work fulltime. I discovered mudding while cruising the net. I had accidently stumbled onto Scaveger's BR page and that was the beginning for me. I am engaged to the very best and brightest woman I have ever had the pleasure to meet. She also plays BR. Well.. thats my bio, pretty boring hunh? :) What I like best about BR: Lots of stuff but as a newbie I really liked our home city of Calathar and the constant change to the game. I also like the friendly nature of our players. The ability to recall was a big plus as well. Ideas: Not many but I would like to see the quest channel as a 'drunk free' talk channel. As a druid I was almost always drunk and actually missed some quests because I wasn't sober enough to understand. I would also like to see more trivia quests. The prizes do not have to be much. But they are soooo much fun. Ideas for new spell/skill: draw power Allows a druid to draw 50 mana from another grouped player at the rate of 1/2. Meaning druid gets 50 and victim loses 100 mana. I know some do not like this concept but I think druids need it. @>---------------------------------[Mortbio]-------------------------------- I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy the newsletter and look foward to every update. It's unforturnate that you don't get more bios though, those are very interesting to read, I am constantly amazed to learn the different places people are playing from. My bios goes as follows: My BR name is Labelas and Tasslehoff (yes i know, how original) but their my favorite characters in the books I read, so I thought how fitting it would be to play them (and immortalize them in a game). I am realitivly new to mudding, only been playing for about two months or so. I have surfed different muds, and I haven't found another quite like this one, and defenantly not one I enjoy as much. The thing I like the most besides playablity(if that's a word) is the willingness to help each other, not to the point that you baby someone, just enough to pick them up, dust them off and send them on their way. As for RL, I don't have any real hobbies any more, don't have the time. I work full time managing a video store (which will remain unnamed), the rest of the time I spend doing things with my wife. I do though, when that brief instant in time comes about, log on into the BR and escape reality. I guess it is my only real vice anymore, and what a good one to have if you ask me. By the way, I would like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way, and would like to single out superman, he's - she's - it's the one who got me going when I logged on for the first time, led me by the hand (which I was in need of at the time) and showed me the ropes. ----Labelas----- P.S. My wife would like to know if there's a online support group for wives of mud addicts (as she like to think that I am)? Email me your scrapbook memories of BR! Lately SO many people have come to me about building "modern" or "present day" areas. I admit that we have alpha complex, but no, NO star wars areas, no star trek areas, and nothing with guns! We are not looking for power rangers, and barney is in lenny's house as it is. PLEASE try to think modern, and if I tell you no, its not with the theme of BR please accept that fact. Cutlass: the ability, every 5 levels to choose any skill of any class of the player's level or lower and bring it up to 5% Kiri's note: interesting, but then we'd have a mud of superfreaks. Gorzak: put age into profile... why you ask? why not? couldn't hurt... Gorzak: make it so that even with the max int of 25 it still takes 2 or 3 prac sessions to learn a skill completely ( I hear tell that at int of 22 lets skills be prac-ed in 2 sessions ) Cutlass: - autosave: saves progress after every battle, purchase, etc ... Kiri's ntoe: this would create MASSive lag!!! Fireflash: Incorporate a way to buy more than 1 thing at a time. like buy 9 bread. because when i buy stuff alot, i get spammed out. just a suggestion -Fireflash Alexei: shouldn't other avians see avians track trails? Kiri's note: nahhh... and if they do, they wouldnt know what they are for. ALeXei: I think the shops should autoreset every hour in rl Kiri's ntoe: no, because we WANT you to explore and find new shops. We are the ones who put in that the shops should fill up. Sylvester: It'd be a nice addition to Profile if we could see the dates when a person Heroed. Matai: expand the "help con" file to talk about the way con help the hp gain you get per level Kiri: write me one if you want. Stranger: A shopkeeper who recharges staffs and wands Cutlass: when mana is too low, a character should have the option to spend hp in the casting (non healing only) Cutlass: alias commands have precidence over all others Shadowfire: heres an idea..when you drink from a water container..the weight should go down..less water, less weight..right? Strikehammer: when you type where it tells you wht area you are in Vercertorix: make track so it is used like track 'mob name'.Like with a space in the name so if you know exactly what you are looking for you do not have to go through 10 or 12 of the mobs matching its track string. Shadowfire: i think we need to limit triggers to heros and imms. my opinion. <> :) Shadowfire: we need a social FLAIL..so we can flail our arms around like lunatics.. Kiri: wanna write it? Ok then, instead of having the different levels of herodom based on promotions or whatnot, how about having them just level up? *shrug* Say 5 levels of hero, each level it'll cost a little more in experience to get to. Then nobody can complain that they're still at the first level of hero, it's their choice not to level. Right? :) -Blondie How about a skill for druids... a nifty little druid wakes up from a night of binge drinking in the northfields...he is lost and someone has robbed him in is drunking stooper..All that is left him is a copper pot..some kindling...and some corn he has found on the ground.then a brain storm hits him..he rubs his kindling together and starts a fire throws some corn in the pot..and lo and behold an hour later he makes his own special brew...of White Lighting 200% proof of alcohol skill create moonshine similiar to tainting...but need kettle, water and corn must be performed right or the druid may create a brew that will blind him tell me what you guys think :? skywalkerx p.s. I thank my southern ancestors for this idea :) I really like Axle's idea of just 2 hero levels. I'd been thinking about the extra hero level, and I may be totally clueless, but it seems that the reason another hero level would be desireable would be so that heroes who have worked hard could be of a "higher rank" before they imm...something to distinguish them from heroes who are either brand new or don't contribute to the mud by doing anything helpful. It seems to me that some heroes are a bit sensitive about "rank"...basically, I think the extra hero level is just needed to soothe some egos and make people feel a bit more appreciated and recognized before they hero. That stated, I think it would be silly to take away any hero powers from minor heroes (where's the need to do this? It's just not fair to make heroing less of a treat) but to possibly, if it's relatively easy to code, give major heroes a few more abilities. Just minor fun stuff, I think. Like let major heroes use the goto in more circumstances, besides just to corpses. Bamfins and bamfouts are fun, but nothing major. And before someone brings up the issue of goto's being abused...a hero who abuses stuff should NOT be a mojor hero, right? So either they won't abuse it, or they'll get demoted, seems like a simple fix. And there might be other minor "treat" like abilities that could be given out, I dunno. Another "bonus" major heroes could get could be some sort of a stat increase. I'm just trying to think of ways to keep minor heroes the same as they are and make major heroes a matter of prestige and maybe a few tiny perks. As for the issue of it taking longer to imm...I don't think so, becoming a mojor hero could just be a distinction that one is on the road to imming, as opposed to an extra step in the road to imming. Just sort of an acknowledgement that a hero has been working hard. As for "usefulness," I'd say that some combination of doing stuff for imms, helping newbies, behaving, and seniority would be the determining factor for being able to become a major hero. Just like for imming, but a lot sooner along the road. I think the important thing is probably for the heroes who've put a lot of work into being helpful etc. to be able to feel that some sort of title distinguishes them from heroes who are just here to have fun and newbie heroes . Ok, that was long and drawn out, but I've been mulling it over for awhile, and it seems that a higher level of hero shouldn't be something that either takes away current abilities from "normal" heroes, or which gives ultimately fantabulous rewards to the "higher" heroes...just something which gives the "higher" heroes some recognition. Ginkgo I like Shadowfire's idea of a "create booze" spell..seems reasonable, booze is cheap and easy to get...create potions spells are much more advantageous...and it is nice to not have to run out for booze...just a matter of convenience. Seems like a pretty fair sounding spell to me...I just wonder how it would be to code...would you be able to code it, or would it have to be a "create drink" spell that randomly creates drinks (booze is a type of drink, not a catagory of it's own) so sometimes you'd end up with milk or coke or water, etc. If so, I think it would still be cool, have a "create drink" spell and make it a lower level (than the suggested 35-40) spell since it would create so many non-alcoholic beverages. Just as long as it would be sufficiently higher level than the create water spell, since create drink would be more beneficial. Cool idea, Shadowfire. :) Ginkgo Bio: Well, most of y'all know me. I'm Blondie ;) I'm a mother of two girls. Karen just turned 3 and Rachel just turned 2. I'm married to Dman and we live in NY. Bleh. Fun, eh? :) I work as a Data Conversion Operator for the US Post Office. (Heh, No disgrunted postal worker jokes either. *snicker*) I'm a diehard mudder who can't seem to hero ;) *winks* But, I'm getting there ;) As for the RL part, I enjoy reading and putering.. Not much time for anything else. Kids can and will run ya ragged ;) But, that's me, in all of my radiance.. *snicker* ;) Blondie A bio eh? Well. I'll give it my best shot..... Name: Kytar Job : On BR, Hero. In RL, I'm in electrical systems work in the Air Force. Hobbies: Anything to do with computers. :) But specifically, I play BR, I spend around 250 hours a month or so there, since i started playing a little over a month ago. It was another mud before that, but they went down. I don't mind that much, BR is a much better place to be. Misc: Hmm.. Well, I was born and raised in Meridian Mississippi, near the center of the state. I'm now 22 years old and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Between those times I graduated high school of course, like most of us my grades were decent, but not incredible. So goes life I suppose. My experience of Barren Realms. Heh, now here is something I could talk about forever. I first logged on Barren realms on July 13th, 1996. I was thinking at the time, "What the *ell is a MERC type mud?" Well, I found out. Within seconds of my arrival a hero was there to assist me on my journey. Xena was the name. (Hi Xena. :) ) This hero happily showed me my way through the mud school, gave me advice on enhancing, and got me started training myself. Then I began to explore the world the imp's, imm's, and hero's had created for us. Along the way I met many friends, most of whom are still around that I drop in on and speak to once in a while. I spent my time well...In one month and 5 days I was getting killed by Xor, the living wall, and other nasties of the realm, for I had made level 51. I don't think some of the player's truly realize what a *great* mud they have chosen to play. I've never seen a mud like this one, the imm's are actually willing to listen to gripes, comments, and compliments. with an open mind. You wouldn't believe how rare that is. Goals: Well, I intend to shortly begin running quests regularly, whether people play or not. That's something I've noticed, many heroes run a few quests and get disgruntled when very few join. I'm gonna keep coming. :) Once I get things sorted out. Dwarven Axiom: Hitting a sleeping dragon is a bad idea, of course, hitting an alert dragon is a worse idea.... Kender's Axiom: If it isn't nailed down it's mine. If I can pry it loose, it isn't nailed down. Avian's Axiom: Can't eat it or drink it? No problem....Kill it and tan it. Elven Axiom: If spells won't kill it or make it sleep, Oh well, swords and bows will just have to do. *sigh* Illithid Axiom: The mind is the most dangerous weapon.. Druidic Axiom: M'i oto krund fro shiT, MyaeB RaTle... Human Axiom: Oh well, what do you expect from a midget, a birdman, a leaf-eater, octopus head, and a drunk? Kytar.... Barren is having a little trouble with the server and also with the MUD itself. Its not clear what the cause is right now, but Scavenger and Fuzzman and Hop - Oakley and myself have been working very hard to get the MUD working and stable again. We plan to be up in the next day or so. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. Many people have written to me asking what they can do to help.. right now, the only thing you can do is stay calm and keep faithful to BR.. so quench your mudding desires elsewhere for now, but remember BR is your family. We do miss y'all.. kinda sappy, I know.. but its true. And if you are so BR withdrawn, go ahead and send me some bios or anything you wrote at all. I'm always looking for good ideas and comments for the newsletter, as you well know. And I have plenty more time to email right about now because of my IMP duties being significantly limited until we are up again. But until then.. read away, and I hope to see you all soon! Omni: Make gratz channel personal - have a target gratz . some of us are getting spammed off the mud with all the triggered gratzes Kiri- you can always turn off the gratz channel with chan -gratz. Some people tend to make an art out of their gratzes.. and I think thats kinda cool. Adds to the community sorta. Omni: Have multiple shelves for stores - one for every 5 levels. prob is that hi-lev people sell stuff and if the shelves are full, buy the lo-lev stuff to make room. there is never decent lo-lev eq for sale. kiri- well, we wanted the sheleves to fill up.. but having a second shop for just low level stuff is an interesting idea. Lysta: a skill ressembling tan but which would create if successful a steak from a mob corpse : butcher or chop kiri- we're considering rangers, so thats a good skill for them. Zanthar: suggest password override of logged on characters...if the game knocks you out and you try getting back in, it says your already playing...it could as for the password to reconnect you kiri- soric is looking into coding this for us. Elkazan: could you make pagelegnth longer? I'd rather have stuff scroll off screen. (I use zmud so just pageup to read it anyway.) kiri- the longest we have is 40. try p 40. Shadowfire: the ability to look at the slists of all races. slist druid. slist human. slist i know you can make a character and the delete...but this is just an idea. kiri- the helps now have the races in them. Gorzak: nicknames.... up to 5 nicknames ( for instance... nickname empress kiri ) ... would allow you to tell 'nickname' instead of using the real names Suggestion about autosave: 1. autosave will technically NOT produce massive lag. if that was so, then the amount of lag in the game would be AMAZING with most people typing save every few seconds/minutes. The way it _could_ be implimented is within the tick routine, where every time the game resets something, it checks the players in the area it resets, and saves them. you can't tell me that there are more players than mobs/items/rooms actively playing at any one time. Another way would be to have an 'alarm' function go off for the players (which could also be for those that play the MUD too long, and miss something in RL, by having it send a series of 5 or so beeps to that player when it goes off with/without a message they write to let them know) and each player sets the timer for a certian amount (save every so many seconds/minutes/hours/days/etc). This would become the equivalent of that player typing 'save' every so often. Personally, whole autosave would be /nice/, it wouldn't be /necessary/, since I have three ways I save continually in the game. My MUD client (currently TinyFUGUE for Linux) is set with a timer-macro that saves every three minutes (and varies the command with an alias I have in the game), plus since I use an eMACS-style text editor for my programming, I have picked up a habit to press the key sequence -x -s (which is 'save' in eMACS) out of paranoia of loosing the latest code I have written, so I have binded those characters with my MUD client to send the command 'save'. Then finally, I occasionally type 'save' in Barren Realms. DarkHelm i was wondering how about a way of getting monsters to follow you as though they were curious. For example if there is a mob that you want to 'discombobulate' but is near a white aura type who takes a dim view of that sort of behaviour, so you wink at the mob or wiggle hips suggestively and just like in bugs bunny cartoons they folllow you, enamored. THEN you clobber them getting well earned xp without the hassle of having to flee from the white aura types. maybe it could be a skill or just something that might work - now and then. Could this be done to other players ? probably not but it would be funny to watch. I was also wondering about feigning death, as well as wimpy if you do go beyond getting beaten in moderation and look like you're not going to make it you clutch your throat and fall to the ground convulsing or better yet slump against a wall or rock mumbling about getting cold, and that it';s getting dark and how it feels like a desert in your mouth. An then staring into the middle distance your start to drool and 'then your sphincter releases in death (hey there has to be some downer to it all)'. Hopefully then the mob gets really disgusted at such bad acting that they depart and you're out cold for 2-6 rounds, buy then wake to find yourself safe and soiled. TVC15 - save a beer for me nwhy can't avians track their own corpses or other peoples for that matter? - this would free up imms and heroes from this kind of things Resnold Kiri- track is extremely powerful as it is. When youo screw up track, you don't backfire like with teleport. I would seriously consider limiting track, since avians are SO powerful, than I would consider raising it. Besides, us heroes and imms have soooo much time on our hands, we don't REALLY need mortals tracking corpses for us ;). @>--------------------------------(bios)-------------------------------- Hi! The name most of you will know me by is Quiver. I also have many other mud names, including Archer, Arrow, Crossbow, Bow, Shaft, and a few others. My RL name is Don, and I have been mudding on BR for approximately a year this August. I fell in love with BR when I first stumbled upon it, and have stuck with it ever since. Ok, enough about my mud life... I'm 19, and married as most of you know. I am a sophomore at Truman State University, formerly known as Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO. I enjoy archery, and have placed in the top five in state competition for the last 5 years or so. I'm 5' 10", 135 lb, brown haired, and wear glasses. I love the outdoors, and go hunting, fishing, or just hiking whenever I get the chance. I also love karate, and am a blue belt in Shotokan karate. I recently got married, (June 22, 1996), to a beautiful young woman named Betsy. She has been my high school sweetheart since 10th grade, and is currently a freshman at Truman. I've never met anyone in RL that plays BR, but I've had a few mudders that I've tried to get interested. Well, anything else that you wish to know about me, feel free to ask me whenever I'm on... -Quiver My BR name is Dextel... even though I still try to get people to call me Caramon when they're talking to me :P My RL name is Russ, I'm 27 years old and I have a dead-end job as a night security guard for Goddard College. (whenever I can I sneak into the computer lab and hook onto BR :) I've given up a baseball career, after being stuck in single-A for 4 years, it was just getting to frustrating. It's to bad though, it would be nice to get $2 million a year ;) Let's see... What else is there... I'm single (in rl), 6'1", dark brown hair, brown eyes, and I have been playing MUDs since 1987... so I guess you could call me a dino... So far the best DikuMUD/Merc (that IS what br is... right?) I've played has really got to be BR, but I pretty much sucked when I started, even though it was only about 2 years ago. It was my first HackN'Slash Mideivel MUD, I pretty much only played Cyberpunk and heavy pkmuds before I came to BR. I'm trying to make areas, but the first one i actually got finished (like 6 months ago) had millions of bugs in it so i finally gave up and deleted it. Now I'm trying to make a new one, the KC mansion. Use your imagination in the meantime to figure out what the KC means :P So that's about it -Caramon/Dextel Email me your scrapbook memories of BR! When recording the number of mobs killed, why not two numbers here? One for total, as usual, and the other for mobs worth the kill. For example, the mobs that your actually receive experience from killing. In the series the race is called "Haluter" with the home-planet of "Haluta", a very old planet under a dying red sun. Once a race of ruthless warriors, who conquered almost the whole galaxy and nearly destroyed the first mankind (Lemuria) they were calmed down by installing a means on their planet which= =20 emitted rays to make them peaceful - and today they are one of the most=20 peaceful and technologically advanced species in the galaxy, though they= tend=20 to withdraw from all other races and live on their own. Their ruthless blood is still active at times and they live it out in a=20 "Drangw=84sche" (may be something like 'urge-cleaning' in english, though it= =20 doesn't hit the point right away), where they want to compete with stronger= =20 opponents just for the fun of it... To make this clear, I think some words on the appearance and the=20 features of this race would help much in understanding: Haluter: about 3.50m (approximately 12 ft.) in height and almost as broad. 4 arms and two legs. Because they were genetically engineered (THAT story would lead far too far now...) as the ultimate warriors, they=20 have also two hearts (which they can launch and stop by will), a stomach,=20 which can use really EVERYTHING (including metals, stone and any kind of rubbish)=20 to get nutrition from and also to produce oxygene. The most apalling features are=20 the two brains (one 'ordinary' brain, which resembles the normal human brain= -=20 including emotions and the such - and the 'planning brain' which is kind of= a=20 biological computer of high power. A Digital Alpha 433 MHz is something like= an=20 abacus compared to that...) and the ability to turn themselves (aka their own body) into a state which resembles the kind of material, which is used in the year 3500 AD to build spaceships. So far for the story. Of course I know, that such a super-race is not suiting for ANY mud, but it bears some interesting ideas, which would differentiate (?) from the normal= "giants". I would propose the following mixture of skills to balance them somewhat= out: *** Advantages: *** - High natural strength - High natural AC - High natural AC - High natural hr/dr - Very good immunity to psionic spells (because of the two brains if the ordinary one is influenced the other one takes over) and rather good immunity to others - See invis or infravision - Second, third and fourth attack (they are not only strong, but FAST) - Bash, rescue etc. - Able to eat steaming turds :) and everything else - Tan-skill (see under disadvantages for that) - May wield 4 items - Able to breath under water (because of their stomach) *** Disadvantages *** - Since they fell through a wormhole, they have practically no history or culture in BR - hence: no guild! Thus ALL skills are out of guild skills whith the normal=20 penalty in exp to level. - They can't wear ANY armour in BR, unless they tan it themselves (see= above). There is just no armour in their size :). Also they can not wear any of the nifty magical items, unless they can HOLD it (lights, diploma etc.). Maybe even no magical weapons. - NO spells whatsoever - Unable to use vehicles (Too big again) - _Maybe_ unable to reach certain locations on their own because of their=20 sheer height (e.g. sewer) or weight (treetops, canopy). - Perhaps some more or less useless skills (out of guild of course), which distract the player and add to the exp to lvl penalty ;> This is just a rough sketch, I am sure that more experienced mudders will have ideas to enhance the this race, if someone should be interested. Taar Hi Kiri, I've been on BR for a short while and am having trouble getting more in- depth information. I have the Player's Guide but I really want more info. For example, what is a red glow on food?, What actually happens when I 'enchant' a weapon and how do I know it is successful. If I charm mobs and group them will the exp on kills be shared with them? When I'm on BR, I feel like a nuisance when I ask a lot of questions. I'm not asking you these questions, I was just wondering if someone put together some info that might give players a deeper understanding of BR. Thanks in advance :) ZombyWoof Kiri: anyone want to help zombywoof out? Okay this might sound a bit redundent or stupid but how do I impove my hit and damage rolls? I go to the weapon store and armor shop and constantly upgrade but I still have this incredably low hit/dam ratio...3/4 to be exact...My character is LadyWolfgang and is a level 12 Druid....Thanks for having this area for me to ask such a quesiton...:) An idea passed through my mind. Illithid as I am i figured that Ills should have some kind of summon/teleport skill. I even came up with a cool name: "molecular transfer". Now that would be a spell (skill for Illithids, actually..?) which would work like summon or teleport. I'm not sure which one but anyways. The special thing about it is that you couldn't summon/teleport from/to a place that has closed doors or any other obstacles on the way. That's because the skill _transfers_ you there thought the material world. The advantage of this skill would be that you CAN summon/teleport from/to a magically protected room. Another thing. I think the "old" fighter races, dwarves, humans and kenders have too much spells. For some proof, check the help file on pass door :-P.. My 2 cents. Liff. @>--------------------------{BIOS!}------------------------------------ I'm a 'somebody' named Michael in real life, but I'm everyone's favorite Nobody in the Realms. :) Where do I start? They were living in Jacksonville, NC at the time of this wondrous occurance and they named their daughter Karen Helene. Karen was a bright little girl who always did her best to live up to her parents expectations. As she grew, she lived in many places including Virginia, Florida, California, Louisiana and Illinois. During the course of her life she went to 14 different schools. While at the University of Illinois she met and then married a soon to be Naval Officer. She was only 19 and really too young to be married, but she gave up school to be with him. Many moves later, California (again), Idaho, Connecticut, New York, Washington. Hawaii and South Carolina she had three sons and a divorce. Not too prepared for the business world after years of being a wife and mother, she still managed to find a decent job in a bank. She now works in the bank's operations center for their commercial loan department. There she troubleshoots problems with loans, doing any corrections necessary. She has lots of contact with bank personnel which she truly enjoys, though most of the time her job bores and fails to challenge her. She now lives in Kalamazoo, Mi. She loves Michigan but hates winter, which causes her to proclaim many times per year that she is moving to Key West. Unfortunately the lotto has not come through for her so she has been unable to pursue her dream. She loves to read, anything from romance, to mystery, to adventure, to science fiction. She also loves the fantasy world of Barren Realms. She contemplates writing, but has not quite managed the discipline needed for its continuous pursuit. Her favorite movie is WHITE CHRISTMAS which is in direct contrast to her hatred of winter. She's quiet, reliable, and that horrid word "nice". She also has a wicked, sometimes off-the-wall sense of humor, that comes out only with people she is comfortable. In other words she is the delightful contrast that all people are. She also has a wicked, sometimes off-the-wall sense of humor, that comes out only with people she is comfortable. In other words she is the delightful contrast that all people are.
