NOT that im saying (as many have said) that illithids are worthless. With constantly improving defensive and offensive spells, and 2 spells that drop ac -40 an illithid is the best tank in the game. However many people don't know this. Mind control would i think tip the balance, because if Illithids charmed mobs, BOOM instant grouping with a awesome tank. Fury -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Grouping, Illithids, and most everything else..... I would like to enter into the record!, that i think that Illithids are misundestood, in one of 2 ways.... Either people dont know about the tank thing, or they hear rumors about Illithids being INVICIBLE! If they do group with you they have expectations, ILLITHIDS are NOT impervious, we can be killed it what can be termed attrition (worn down slow), and no matter what my ac i will still not be able to kill a mob 10+ levels above me. I think every BR player should read the race reviews in the tactical muding artical on hte BR site (its in the HELPS section). It would clear the air on alot of misunderstandings that happen in groups. For instance, everyone assumes Illithids have things like see invis and identify. Never ASSUME anything about your fellow groupers of ANY race. Also even if this is a matter of opinion the best group on BR is an [ ILL DWF DRU ] or just a DWF ILL. IF you have never seen this combo, dont dismiss the Illithids grouping value. And if the illithids not tanking? I currently add to my group -63 ac per group member, Protection (-1/4 damage recived), and +6 hitroll and it will only get better! That by the way is 3 spells, the only ones im allowed to cast on another. Oh and fly too. Also i notice that there are very little in the way of help for illithids on the mud, for instance, if you are a druid and are brand new at it, and you want to know some good spells to prac, there are many druids that will gladly help you. There are more illithids now than when i started, so its better, but the Illithid is still misunderstood. (I help lower level illithids with the wierd spells and things and i encourage other high level mort illithids to do the same.) I guess no one knows how to play an illithid, or worse, they dont think its worth their time...... I may be completly off, if i am im sure some one will tell me.... As for improving the illithid? Well each race i think can be improved, and will be down the line. To close i think Illithids are a true grouping race, and though some may think it idiotic to have to group, i think its what make BR great, i like making new friends, and re-grouping with old ones. When you take it all away, the Hitroll and Damroll, spells and attacks and all that stuff, that alone, the grouping aspect of being an ill, makes it worth it. The solution: Eat it in the parking lot. Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite and you'll eat less. I noticed that it wasnt a hard place to learn, you might find yourself traveling in circles, and if you look hard enough, you may be able to find a couple of log cabins. Also the the east of the grounds is the haunted manor. *bow bow bow* /(*) | / | |\--------------------------------------------\ (@)(((((((( | >-------------------------------------------- > | |/--------------------------------------------/ | \ \(*) Well folks -- as you know I ran a poem quest earlier this week. Here is the first of many submissions to this quest! From runner-up Tonyday: Tonyday: letter id never write Mon Feb 15 17:41:36 1999 ----------------- Dear God, I havent asked you for much in my life, but I must ask you for somethiing now since I dont know if I will ever write to you again. I don't really need your help, but I would like it. For I have something in my life that I cannot lose. I have something that is more precious than 5 thousand gold bars. More gorgeous than a morning sunrise. Something I would protect with my own life in a heartbeat. Her name is ******. Please God, I don't really need your help, but I would like it. Make her feel like a Princess. (Folks, I censored the name --he had included it in his original version-- because I'm not sure he wanted everyone to know it.) /(*) | / | |\--------------------------------------------\ (@)(((((((( | >-------------------------------------------- > | |/--------------------------------------------/ | \ \(*) Replies by Fury: >>SPUDMAN: >>i know there has been alot of arguing over humans and enhanced >>damage, i >>dont know if this is a good alternative or what, but it seems sensible, >>because at certain points, humans are very "weak" and i have proposed >>the >>idea of a "timed" enhanced damage, lasting 2-3 hours, costing a good >>200-300 mana and in guild but effects of an oog at level 45-50 to help >>in the stretch to heroism. I in general believe each idea has some merit, however just out of couriosity is there any other reason besides humans being very "weak" for you to recive such a skill? Humans are meant to be versitile and not perticularly excellent at one thing. So it follows that they don't hit as hard as say a dwf. Point 2: most people have a pretty tough time heroing, it is supposed to be a hurdle. Also a lot of other races would kill for the auto attacks that humans have. There are certain spells/skills that are "killer" apps for a certain race. backstab, enhnaced damage, taint, roundhouse, disintegrate, echant weapon, summon, etc. you can debate the merits of each, but enhanced damage is the "killer" app of dwfs and avis, and it will probably stay that way >>BadJuju: since humans don't hit as hard, they might as well attack >>more often. >>Why not give them 4th attack either at early 40's, or as a hero >>skill (more likely) call something like "windmill kick" This one makes more sense and is more inline with the human chracteristics. It is simply a reasonable idea. This would probably help without being too powerful. >>Eldrock: if you have to wield a weapon to disarm, it stands to reason >>you must wield a weapon to parry (this would apply to mobs as well) Sounds good to me. >>Exor: skill called meditate for elves. automatically works when you >>sleep. Brings back your mana twice as fast. skill level should be 30 >>to 40 Hmm, maybe make it so you can't meditate while drunk and then this is a good idea, but just for elves? REPLY BY BALTAR: > Caller: not spam-guard 'note read', When I have 20 notes I don't wanna > hafta log-on again Or, alternately, have the "PUT A LID ON IT!" message appear one or two times before actually getting booted. That way, anyone who's just repeating commands one at a time will know that it's time to type "note read" again...but the abusers will still get booted.
